Dr. Richard “Doc” Gooding
is responsible for helping the Valutek management team develop and implement viable long-term growth strategies. He facilitates that company’s annual Planning Retreats and Quarterly Reviews. He is a strategic coach for the Valutek management team, providing independent input and feedback on key opportunities and issues the company faces in pursuing its vision. Doc was on the faculty in the College of Business at Arizona State University. He taught Strategic Planning as well as other management classes. His Ph.D. is from Michigan State University. He is currently teaching two online courses in Michigan State Universities’ MS program in Strategic Leadership.
As a management consultant over the last 20 years he has helped many entrepreneurial companies set and reach their strategic goals. His clients include Insight Enterprises, Cold Stone Creamery, Fairytale Brownies, China Mist Tea, Weitz Construction, VIZIO, American Barcode, and Canterra Homes. He was VP of Global Strategic Planning at Avnet where he designed and implemented its global strategic planning process.
Doc and his wife Marty moved from Michigan to Phoenix in 1988 when he started teaching at ASU. They met in Germany when Doc was in the Air Force and were married in 1968. They have two lovely daughters who live in the Valley. They have one granddaughter and one grandson. He and Marty enjoy vacations traveling and deep sea fishing in Cabo and Panama. He has competed in several triathlons throughout the United States and is currently a member of Team USA.
Malcolm Persen's experience is in general management, financial analysis and distribution. He is a senior executive with a unique combination of analytical fact-based know-how, real-life experience, interpersonal skills and strategic creativity.
Mr. Persen is the founder and President of Resolute Performance Contracting, a specialty steel and solar construction firm with successful projects spanning from Hawaii to Minnesota.
Previously, Mr. Persen served as the Chief Financial Officer for Radyne Corporation, a NASDAQ-traded manufacturer of satellite and telecommunications equipment. While at Radyne, he was part of the management team that tripled its revenues and then sold the firm resulting in a 100% return for shareholders. Earlier, Mr. Persen was employed as Director of Finance for Avnet, Inc., a global distributor of electronic components and computer systems.
Mr. Persen also serves on the Board of Directors of Nephros, Inc (OTCQB: NEPH) where he is the Chair of the Audit Committee. In addition, Mr. Persen has taught undergraduate and MBA finance courses at University of Arizona, Boston College and the University of Massachusetts. Mr. Persen holds a BA in Political Economics from The Colorado College, and an MBA from The Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
Senior Vice President, Avnet Services, Avnet Technology Solutions. Mr. Hurst is an experienced senior executive with over 20 years of experience in the IT industry. He has held both domestic and international roles in general management, sales & marketing, operations and procurement.
Mr. Hurst currently serves as the senior vice president for Avnet Services, a global business unit of Avnet Technology Solutions. He is responsible for managing the strategic direction, day-to-day operations and global performance of Avnet’s education and lifecycle solution portfolios.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Hurst served as vice president, global supplier business executive for Avnet Technology Solutions, managing Avnet’s global relationships with Oracle and Hitachi Data Systems and working with their executive teams to identify opportunities for growth. He has also served as vice president and general manager of the Sun Solutions business unit of Avnet Technology Solutions, Americas where he was instrumental in successfully transitioning that team to Oracle Solutions upon Oracle's acquisition of Sun in 2009.
Mr. Hurst joined Avnet with the 2006 acquisition of GE Access, where he was vice president of mature technologies and responsible for its business operations and strategic direction around servers, storage, software and services.
Keith Stoneback is a proven Life Sciences industry executive with a record and reputation for achieving results and adding significant value to the businesses he has led. During his 30-year executive management career, he has built and led teams that succeeded within large corporate structures, start-up environments and private equity financed turnaround situations. The majority of his industry experience has been within the medical device and healthcare equipment markets.
Most recently, Keith has been active as an interim CEO, angel investor, mentor and advisor; having created Lanesborough LLC as a corporate vehicle to provide these services to life sciences companies both in the US and abroad.
After numerous corporate related relocations throughout his career, in 2005 Keith and his wife Susan decided to make Scottsdale, AZ their primary home. Keith enjoys SCUBA diving and motorcycle touring. He and Susan have a long list of world-wide travel destinations on their bucket list.
Mr. Mattos’s most recent leadership position was as Chief Commercial Officer for Ansell’s Medical and Industrial businesses in the Americas from January of 2014 until January of 2016. Ansell, a public company listed in Australia, acquired BarrierSafe Solutions International (BSSI) in January of 2014.
Mr. Mattos joined BSSI in 2004 as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Microflex Corporation, and was named Chief Executive Officer of BSSI in 2006. During Mr. Mattos’s time as CEO of BSSI three ownership transitions were completed (two to new private equity owners, and the final transaction to Ansell).
Prior to joining BSSI, Mr. Mattos was a General Manager at Kimberly Clark Healthcare, who had acquired Safeskin where Mike was working at the time as Director of Sales and Marketing. Before joining Safeskin, Mr. Mattos worked at Absolute Quality Leadership (AQL) as Director of Sales and Marketing (AQL was acquired by Safeskin) and at AJ Reynolds as National Sales Manager. Mr. Mattos started his working career with American Hospital Supply in sales, and earned a BA degree in Political Economics from the University of California-Berkley.
